[ Summary ] |
Residual renal function (RRF) is important in dialysis patients, but the definition of RRF remains unclear. In general, urine volume is considered a marker of RRF. It is reasonable to assume that RRF includes 2 functions, i.e., glomerular filtration and tubular function in end-stage renal disease. Interest is increasing in renal tubular function as a secretory mechanism for protein-bound uremic retention solutes. RRF is related to life prognosis, and must, therefore, be essentially considered in dialysis patients. The maintenance of RRF is strongly associated with the status of nutrition, blood pressure, anemia, chronic inflammation, and infection. RRF has significant influence on these complications in dialysis patients. |
