[ Summary ] |
I refl ected on the practice of having learned the significance of providing support to help patients live with renal disease based on dialogue often encountered during routine practice (i.e., "answering questions received from patients") in accordance with Gibb's reflective cycle. Through reflection, I found that the focus of decision-making support for renal replacement therapy was not on which treatment method to choose but on the decision-making process, and it enabled a change in perspective in that support helps patients to live with renal disease. Furthermore, I became aware of nursing expertise in "providing life support." These studies have led to the current practice whereby patients consider and engage in a two-way exchange with the medical care provider regarding how one lives with renal disease. |
