| [ Summary ] |
A decline in both, cognitive and physical function in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) occurs not only in those with end-stage kidney disease but also in the pre-dialysis stage. Notably, this decline in function worsens with progression of CKD. Therefore, prompt intervention is warranted in the early stages. Reportedly, cognitive and physical functions are interrelated in community-dwelling older people, and we observed this interrelationship even in patients with CKD in the pre-dialysis stage. It has been suggested that maintaining physical function can be an effective strategy to prevent cognitive decline in community-dwelling older people. However, whether maintaining physical activity and exercise are effective strategies to prevent cognitive decline in patients with CKD requires to be conclusively established. |
