[ Summary ] |
Exercise capacity is reduced in end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and is an independent predictor of mortality. Exercise in ESRD, including aerobic, resistance exercise, and combined training, reportedly has beneficial effects. Although the intensity of exercise varies among studies, initial light aerobic training progressing to moderate aerobic training for 30 minutes or more, 3 times per week, should be recommended. If possible, the anaerobic threshold should be determined, using cardiopulmonary exercise testing. The intensity of exercise training at the anaerobic threshold must be safe and effective. |
