【 要旨 】 本稿では最初に高齢者の心理社会的特性について， (1) 精神機能の老化（感覚器官，集中力と理解度の低下，学習意欲の低下），(2) 老化による性格変化（レイチャードの5類型），(3) 社会性の変化（役割，経済，仲間，環境の喪失）という点から述べる．次に高齢者がケアを受けるときにもちやすい否定的感情について，怒りと落胆を中心に説明する．最後に，高齢者ケアで重要な心がけとして「関心を向けること」「出会いとニーズを大切にすること」を説明する．

[ Summary ] We describe the psychological characteristics of elderly persons from three points of view : (1) aging of mental function, (2) character change, and (3) sociality change. Feelings of anger and depression are common among elderly persons. We should conscious of "interest" and "encounter" as attitude when we concern with an elderly person.
