The Committee on Physician Specialty set up by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare published its final report in 2013. It included two important conclusion. The first was there is a necessity to establish a new specialty accreditation body, independent of any current specialty associations. The second was there was a need to include general physicians as members of 19 basic specialty physicians' groups. The role of general physicians would be summarized as follows : to address a wide variety of clinical problems, to refer patients in a timely way, to practice systems-based approachs, and to have a public health orientation. The future quality of the medical system in Japan depends on this type of new accreditation body. |
