[ Summary ] |
A basic ethical principal for providing medical care for the elderly has been to extend life at all costs. Due to media reports concerning the deaths of patients with dementia, additional safety measures have been recommended. Attention must also be paid to these patients to avoid issues associated with their behavior such as them removing their own needles or post-dialysis loitering. Currently, sedation and physical restraints are the means being employed to control these patients. Prevention and treatment of dementia will become increasingly critical as our population ages. |
