[ Summary ] |
Chronic dialysis patients are susceptible to drug intoxication. Central nervous system impairments are relatively common serious side effects. Drugs inducing these impairments include antibiotics (cephalosporin and penicillin), anti-viral agents (anti-herpes virus agents and oseltamivir), and H2 blockers. Wide variety of symptoms can be occurred such as behavioral abnormality, drowsiness, tremor, convulsion and coma. While these drugs are prescribed to dialysis patients precise adjustment of dosage and careful observation are essential. When central nervous system impairment appeared, immediate cessation of drug is necessary and blood purification method should be considered if applicable. |
