[ Summary ] |
Hypertension is thought to be related to detrimental effects, leading to cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, in the same manner in hemodialysis patients as in the general population. Hypertension in PD patients is worsened by particular factors such as fluid overload and hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system, more so than in the general population. In cases of refractory hypertension, secondary hypertension should be ruled out. To avoid cardiovascular complications, fluid overloads and morning hypertension must be identified and steps must be taken to intervened. |
