More than half the patients starting dialysis now are over the age of 65 and the proportion of dialysis patients aged over 75 years is increasing. 9.8 % of the total dialysis population have dementia in Japan. There are specific problems for dialysis patients with dementia. The existing nursing care insurance (long-term care insurance) system plays an important role in supporting dialysis patients. |
