Title Work related stress in dialysis teams
Author Seiji Ohira Sapporo Kita Clinic
[ Summary ] The degree of stress experienced by nurses, physicians and clinical technicians working in the field of dialysis was analyzed in relation to the medical legislation's definition of a "manager". A questionnaire was distributed to those who work in the field and replies were obtained from 159 nurses, 21 physicians and 50 technicians. Nurses felt more stress than physicians or technicians in three categories : 1)procedures during hemodialysis, 2)providing patients with guidance, advice and education and 3)relations with patients, their families and co-workers. The number of years of clinical experience was both a plus and minus in terms of dealing with stress. Whether or not an event will lead to stress is greatly affected by the individual and their personal means of dealing with it. However, a systematic management strategy for medical facilities, which is led by physicians, is also essential.
