[ Summary ] |
Hemo purification volume defined as dialysate dose+filtration volume is defined. In relation to hemodialysis for chronic renal failure patients, an increase of Kt/V beyond 1.2 does not improve patient prognosis in a linear manner. Efficacy for acute renal failure patients is unknown. Recently, two randomized controlled trials concerning acute renal failure patients in intensive care units and hemo purification volume have been reported on. Both reports denied the positive effects of increasing hemo purification volume. Moreover, several side effects such as hypophosphatemia were revealed. Randomized controlled trials to treat patients with accute renal failure only by continuous hemo filtration are required. At present, we should not treat all patients by administering high purification volumes. High volume purification for selected patients is indicated for limited periods. |
