【 要旨 】 透析導入前患者教育の目的は，患者の不安を軽減し，的確な情報を提供することで患者が自らに最適な治療法を選択できるようにすることである．透析導入前の患者は，透析療法の医学的な面だけではなく，治療の融通性と自立の程度，透析導入後に通常の生活が送れるかどうかなどに関心をもっている．
透析導入前の患者を支援し，透析に関する情報を提供するのには透析患者が適任である．患者がもっとも知りたいことを実体験として話すことができ，患者の不安をよく理解しているからである．同じ境遇にある人々が支援するピア・サポートは，具体的な情報提供の点でも，精神的な支援の点でも，治療法を受容するのを助ける点でも意義がある．ピア・サポーターとしての透析患者の果たす役割が今後ますます期待される．

[ Summary ] Pre-dialysis CKD (chronic kidney disease) patients need to decide on the type of modality for renal replacement therapy during this stressful and challenging stage of their life. Sharing experiences with and providing information to pre-dialysis CKD patients is a form of peer support. Not only dose this education complement care delivered by health professionals but it can provide practical information and emotional support which dialysis especially patients appreciate. Peer support by a dialysis patients for a pre―dialysis patient can provide strong emotional support as well as practical information. It reduces pre-dialysis patients' distress, and helps them decide on their choice of treatment modality.
