【 要旨 】 腎代行治療は高額な治療である．通常の医療保険での3割の自己負担は患者に過大な負担となるため，さまざまな制度により患者の自己負担の軽減がはかられている．透析患者は，医療保険の高額長期疾病の特例により自己負担が1万円（または2万円）まで減額され，その自己負担を自立支援医療（更生医療）および自治体の障害者医療費助成制度によりさらに減免する仕組みとなっている．腎移植に伴う医療費も，おもに自立支援医療および障害者医療費助成制度により自己負担は軽減されており，患者は経済的に過大に負担とならないよう配慮されている．
