Patients should initially be informed that kidney transplantation is one renal replacement therapy option. It is important to inform patients that living and cadaveric kidney transplantation procedures have different factors and outcomes. Kidney transplantation requires donors who are selected from family members according to established rules. We should explain that many clinical examinations must be performed before and after transplant operations and that various types of complications may occur after kidney transplantation. Misunderstandings concerning medical insurance and mental problems may be avoided by providing adequate information. Although QOL for transplant patients exceeds that of dialysis patients, kidney transplantation must not be considered to be a means to avoid dialysis treatment. |
