| [ Summary ] |
Both consistent education and training for PD performance are needed since PD treatment depends primarily the patients' efforts at home. In general, patients tend to experience mental fatigue and stress associated with their daily lives while receiving this treatment. Therefore, the support of their families and friends is indispensable to minimize their burden.
Therefore, nursing staffs in our hospital have tried to educate and train not only the patients but also patients' families. Early information being given to patients as well as to their families concerning the advanced stages of renal failure is very important to make adequate decisions concerning which dialysis modality to choose. If enough time and information are provided for them to decide on dialysis modality, planning their future as a PD patient is possible and, a more effortless introduction to PD with less mental stress on staff members is possible. In addition, we believe that early support for patients and their families provided by the medical staffs involved will bring about better therapeutic relationships between them. |
