【 要旨 】 人工呼吸器は機械である以上，使用中に故障する可能性がある．人間が取り扱う以上，操作ミスや確認不足から人工呼吸器が誤動作を起こすこともある．また，人工呼吸器が正常に動作していても，患者の状態に適した人工呼吸管理を施行しなければ人工呼吸器からの離脱困難，人工呼吸器関連肺障害 (ventilator associated lung injury ; VALI) などの合併症の原因となる．このようなトラブルを防ぐためにも使用中の人工呼吸器は適切に管理しなければならない．

[ Summary ] Ventilators are machines, and as such there is the possibility of them malfunctioning while operating. Malfunctions with ventilators occur due to human errors. Inappropriate ventilator management may present problems with patients' lungs, threatening the life of patients and causing delays in weaning them off the machine. Care is needed to prevent difficulties with ventilators. Ventilators should be checked for safety confirmation and whether ventilator management is suitable for the patient's condition. It is necessary to analyze ventilator use in consideration of the above mentioned factors.
