The three options for treating patients with end-stage kidney disease are hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation. In general, three kinds of specialists, transplant surgeons, nephrologists and dialysis providers, are concerned with treatment related to kidney transplantation. Although both dialysis and kidney transplantation for end-stage CKD (chronic kidney disease) should be fully explained to patients by nephrologists, these explainations are not adequate. In order to avoid these situations, close cooperation between transplant surgeons and nephrologists is required. |
