【 要旨 】 近年，慢性腎臓病 (chronic kidney disease ; CKD) は，人類の健康を脅かす新しい疾患群として，着実に浸透しつつある．CKDは増加の一途をたどる透析患者の予備軍として，また国民の健康に影響を及ぼす心血管疾患の重大な危険因子として，その対策が喫緊の課題である．また，その対策には，腎臓専門医だけではなく，かかりつけ医や患者，行政を含めた連携が必須である．本稿では，CKD対策の意義を概説し，今後の展望を述べる．

[ Summary ] Recently, chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become increasingly recognized as a global public health problem. A CKD initiative is urgent task, not only because CKD is a big reserver for increasing number of hemodialysis patients, but also because CKD is a serious risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. To achieve, this goal requires an alliance of physicians, patients, government agencies as well as nephrology specialists. In this article, the significance of a CKD initiative will be reviewed, and perspectives will be addressed.
