[ Summary ] |
Chronic heart failure (CHD) and cerebro-vascular diseases (CVD) are the major causes of death in patients receiving hemodialysis (HD). Hypertension and atherosclerosis are the major causes of CHD and CVD and worsen CHD and CVD conditions. Therefore, it is important to control blood pressure and prevent the progression of atherosclerosis. Secondary hyperparathyroidism is also a major complication for patients receiving HD and causes ectopic calcification and worsens atherosclerosis. Salt and water restriction are very necessary for the control of hypertension and CHD, as well as phosphate restriction for the control of atherosclerosis and prevension of ectopic calcification. Control of dyslipidemia and improvement of nutritional status are also necessary. It is important that all staff members help provide the above mentioned treatments for HD patients. |
