[ Summary ] |
Body composition measurements are important in evaluating the nutritional status of patients with chronic renal failure. Currently available methods include anthropometry (body mass index, skin fold thickness), methods requiring special equipment (bioelectrical impedance analysis, BIA ; dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, DEXA ; X-ray computed tomography, CT), and estimation of muscle mass with creatinine kinetics. To define the ideal nutritional status for renal failure patients, further outcome studies are needed. |
