[ Summary ] |
Metabolic syndrome is defined as a combination of several individual metabolic problems that lead to a high risk of atherosclerosis. The main features of metabolic syndrome include impaired glucose intolerance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity. In peritoneal dialysis, glucose is used as the most common osmotic agent in dialysis solution, wich is absorbed from dialysis solution and is associated with a variety of metabolic consequences ranging from acute hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia to dyslipidemia. In management of CAPD patients, it is important to consider the existence of metabolic syndrome to prevent cardiovascular events. |
