[ Summary ] |
Hypertension is one of the significant poor prognostic factors in patients maintained on chronic dialysis. Restriction of salt and fluid intake is essential for blood pressure control in those patients and, to achieve this, dietitians advise patients on food selection and preparation, as well as the amount of seasoning, by giving examples of easily implemented methods based on individual dietary habits. However, since eating is a daily activity, the level of compliance varies widely among individuals and it is hard for patients to follow such dietary restrictions every day. Therefore, dietitians should provide education on a regular basis so that patients can personally control their own salt and fluid intake. Furthermore, an interdisciplinary approach is required to maintain the favorable blood pressure control achieved with dietary restrictions and quality of life, ultimately improving patient outcomes. |
