| [ Summary ] |
Cataract is the name given to any opacity in the crystalline lens of the eye, which may lead to poor vision and / or photophobia, due to light scatter is the incidence of lens opacity is higher in diabetic patients than in others. The long-term use of systemic corticosteroids induces posterior subcapsular lens opacity. The prevalence of cataracts is increasing in patients receiving hemodialysis, because of the increasing number of diabetic and elderly patients receiving hemodialysis. The mainstay of treatment for cataracts is surgery, and the opportunity for surgery is determined for each patient in accordance with the necessity in terms of their daily activity. Small incision cataract surgery is currently favorably performed in the settings of outpatient clinics or short-term admission. |
