[ Summary ] |
Biocompatibility is defined as "a concept which prescribes the safety of materials in terms of biological reaction with the contact of treatment materials and blood" or "the concept which prescribes the safety of dialysis therapy in relation to biological reactions, due to the dialysis therapy itself". The factors that determine the biocompatibility of dialysis devices are classified as follows; chemicals remaining after the manufacturing process, leached substances from device materials and biological reactions of the body to foreign materials. Acute complications, due to bioincompatibility have been reported to result in death. To improve the safety of dialysis therapy development of fully biocompatible dialysis devices and materials should be required. |
