End stage renal failure, requiring dialysis therapy may be a precipitating cause of cardiac failure. The causes of cardiac failure are often the increase in intravascular plasma volume, anemia, arteriovenous fistulas and hypertension in dialysis patients. The primary aim of nutritional therapy in treating cardiac failure is to correct fluid overload with sodium-and water-restricted diets or salt-and water-restricted diet. The prescribed dialysis diet for the cardiac failure patients is deficient in water-soluble vitamins, the vitamin B group and vitamin C, in some minerals and in dietary fiber. The patients should be supplied with these nutrients. Parenteral alimentation is necessary in cases of severe cardiac failure. |
