The peripheral cutting balloon used for hemodialysis access has four blades spaced around it. In this study, cutting and dilation were done on 224 patients with resistant stenosis related to blood access. The rate of successful cutting dilation was 85.3 percent over all. In these patients, at the six month mark, primary patency was 83.8 percent and secondary patency was 96.9 percent. Further more, primary patency was 73.3 percent and secondary patency was 95.3 percent at nine months. Among the those with resistant blood access stenosis, those treated with a peripheral cutting balloon, displayed excellent patency in relation to that associated with A-V fistula and stenosis in artificial grafts and efferent veins. |
