[ Summary ] |
Angiodysplasia is the most frequent source of recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with chronic renal failure. This vascular lesion is characterized by dilated, tortuous submucosal veins, venules and dilated mucosal capillaries. However, it may be difficult to diagnose angiodysplasia in the lower gastrointestinal tract though common endoscopic examination. Selective angiography and 99mTc RBC scintigraphy may be helpful in patients who have active bleeding associated with angiodys plasia. Many therapeutic approaches have been tried for angiodysplasia. Selective TAE is an effective procedure and reduces the risk of side effects for elderly hemodialysis patients who are in poor condition. |
