[ Summary ] |
Plasma lipoprotein profiles in uremic patients on hemodialysis are characterized by hypertriglyceridemia, based on an increase in VLDL, IDL, and a decrease in HDL levels. These abnormalities are associated with a decreased activities in LPL, HTGL, LCAT, and CETP. TC and LDL levels are rarely elevated. Then modification of LDL may play an important role in the early stage of atherosclerosis in patients on hemodialysis. With respect to the advanced lesions of atherosclerosis such as calcification, impaired calcium metabolism and systolic hypertension may be related to the progression of atherosclerosis. |
