【 要旨 】 痴呆透析患者の看護は，老化や痴呆によって環境からの刺激に適応する能力が極端に低下していて，自らの健康を守ろうとする能力も低下している透析患者に，安全で安楽な透析を確保しなくてはならない．そのためには，高齢者の特徴と痴呆患者の特徴の両方を十分理解する必要がある．とくに痴呆患者には痴呆患者の世界が存在している．彼らの表面上の行動に目を奪われることなく，十分な情報とアセスメントによって，その行動の意味や彼らの心を理解する努力が重要である．そして痴呆透析患者の個別性にあった関わりをすることができたとき，安全で安楽な透析を提供できると思う．高齢社会は透析患者の世界にも到来している．痴呆透析患者の看護の確立は，今世紀の透析看護の大きな課題であると考える．

[ Summary ] Nurses need to ensure the safety and comfort of dementia patients receiving hemodialysis. This is because, their abilities to adapt to their surroundings and stimulation become weak. Also, their abilities to maintain their general health diminish. These events are caused by both aging and dementia. Nurses have to understand the characteristics of aged and demented patients. They need to developempathy for patients. We must for understand patients' feelings and reactions. If we can care for them individually and can offer safe, comfortable hemodialysis treatment. Nursing for dementia patients receiving hemodialysis is a major theme in the 21 century in Japan.
