[ Summary ] |
Therapeutic plasmapheresis (PP) has been widely applied for the treatment of neurological disorders where autoimmunity is presumed to play a role, such as Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), myasthenia gravis (MG) and multiple sclerosis (MS). The results of well designed randomized controlled studies for neuroimmunological (NID) will help set the guidelines on who, how and when to treat NID. Therapeutic PP has been used in chronic phase of NID, based on the knowledge, that PP is also an effective means of removing the autoantibodies and T-cell modulation, with the use of concomitant immunosuppressive drugs. |
