[ Summary ] |
Hemodialysis patients with diabetes have advanced atherosclerosis, and they comprise a high-risk group, needing more aggressive management of cardiovascular risk factors. Glycemic control has been shown to be a prognostic factor in hemodialysis populations, although there are no established guidelines for optimal glycemic levels. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol should be kept below 100 mg/dl. The proposed optimal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg, and the target range should be below 140/90 mmHg for dialysis patients. It should be confirmed in future studies to what extent the prognosis for diabetic hemodialysis patients could be improved following control of these risk factors. |
