[ Summary ] |
The majority of patients in Japan suffering from diabetes mellitus are non-insulin dependent diabetics. Therefore, obesity is a serious problem for them in maintaining good glycemic control, however, these patients lose body weight with progressing renal failure. Actually, the parameters reflecting the nutritional states of dialyzed patients revealed that percentage of creatinine generation rates as well as serum alubumin levels are worse in diabetics compared to non-diabetics. Various diabetic complications are beleieved to be the cause of the malnutrition found in diabetics. In addition, recent research suggested the disruption of serum leptin levels as a contributing factor for poor appetite. |
