[ Summary ] |
Dispite of many improvements in several parts of the CAPD catheter in order to reduce exit-site infection or catheter dislodgement, dramatic changes have not been made yet. As the number of long-term CAPD patients increase in Japan, incidence of peritonitis due to exit-site/tunnel infection has become more. A major cause of the catheter loss in those long-term CAPD patients is tunnel infection. Therefore, considering this point, collagen cuff and presternal catheter are thought better than the other types of currently used catheters. |
