| [ Summary ] |
Lung transplantation has become an established therapeutic modality for patients with end-stage lung diseases. In Japan, the selection of transplant centers, the establishment of recipient and donor selection criteria, and the founding of the Japan Organ Transplant Network have all been completed and 18 lung transplant candidates are on the waiting list as of March, 2000. A clinical lung transplantation is likely to come to pass in the near future. Efforts must continue to be made to make brain-death and transplantation under stood by people through appropriate education, as well as overcoming clinical problems, which impede the survival of lung transplant recipients. |
