[ Summary ] |
This article reviews abnormalities of lipoprotein levels in hemodialysis patients and possible pharmacological approaches to treatment. Because some drugs are cleared through the kidney, drug accumulation limits the usefulness of most of fibric acids, except clinofibrate. Statins and nicotinic acids may be safely used. No statistics are available which show the beneficial effects of lipid lowering intervention on atherosclerosis in this population. |
