Cerebral blood flow is governed by perfusion pressure and vascular resistance. The latter factor may be influenced by the geometry (or topology) of microvessels as well as the rheological property of blood. Cerebral blood flow may be regulated by changing microvascular resistance, which includes both the flow and the deformation of blood cells (erythrocyte and leukocyte) and the mechanical response of endothelial cells to blood flow. This review focuses on rheological factors which influence cerebral blood flow. |
