| [ Summary ] |
To prevent accidents associated with colonoscopy, the following items are important : (1) Anamnesis ; past history, especially abdominal surgery and pace-maker insertion, as well as medication, especially anti-coagulant and anti-platelet reagents. (2) Preparation of emergency drugs and equipment. These drugs and equipment must be placed set in or near the examination room, and be ready to use. (3) Securing venous lines in high risk cases to give the emergency drugs immediately. (4) Monitoring of the systemic condition O2 saturation, blood pressure, and ECG should be monitored in high risk cases or in patients who are given sedatives before examination. We described here in details concerning methods of monitoring systemic conditions before, during and after colonoscopy. We explained methods of monitoring used in our department. We also described endoscopic treatment methods for the patients with pacemakers. A bipolar snare is recommended, because it has less influence on pacemakers. In addition, we explained the clinical pathway used in our department. |
