[ Summary ] |
Because pit patterns reflect histological architecture, they are useful in estimating histology and are also useful in estimating the depth of invasion of colorectal carcinoma. However, even if a type VN pit pattern indicates invasive carcinoma, the carcinomial level does not always invade down to the submucosa. Diagnosis of the depth of invasion is usually estimated by endoscopic findings such as the diameter of lesions, growth patterns, surface configuration and state of mucosal folds. Therefore, the diagnosis of pit patterns should be used together with endoscopic findings for estimating the depth of invasion. |
