| [ Summary ] | This study investigated the clinical management of non-neoplastic polyps. Non-neoplastic polyps include hamartomatous polyps, inflammatory polyps, hyperplastic polyps and unclassified polyps. Our clinical experienced revealed the following: (1) hyperplastic polyps could by left in place without polypectomies, because there is no evidence of any relation between hyperplastic polyps and carcinoma. However, we encourage the removal of lesions which are over 5mm in diameter because a differential diagnosis is sometimes difficult to make between adenomas or serrated adenomas. (2) It is not necessary to remove inflammatory polyps because the polyps had not changed to neoplastic lesions. (3) Hamartomatous polyps should be removed for the prevention of hemorrhaging or carcinoma. It is concluded that hamartomatous polyps should be removed by endoscopic polypectomy and other types may be left except when it is necessary to obtain histological findings. |
