[ Summary ] |
In this section, we describe the clinical significance of narrow-band imaging (NBI) for depressed colorectal lesions. NBI observation may detect more depressed lesions compared to white light observation. Colorectal depressed lesions are often recognized by NBI as a brownish area or O-ring sign, and depressed adenomas are characterized by the presence of punctuate microvessels on the depressed surface rather than the reticular or spiral microvessels observed in protruded adenomas on magnifying NBI. Colorectal depressed lesions are less common but more malignant than protruded lesions; therefore, it is necessary to perform daily endoscopic examinations with the awareness that depressed lesions should not be missed. |
