| [ Summary ] |
The main purpose of surveillance colonoscopy after polypectomy is to control the mortality and morbidity associated with colorectal cancers (CRC). Reasonable surveillance programs should be developed considering their validity in determining the mortality and morbidity, as well as the burden, cost, and capacity. In Japan, many surveillance colonoscopies were conducted and compared with those in Western countries. Recently, a brand new guideline presented a first-of-its-kind surveillance program based on risk stratification. The guideline aims at nearly zero risk of CRC mortality, and it could be used widely in the real-world practice. |
