[ Summary ] |
Differential diagnosis of intestinal Behçet's disease (BD) includes simple ulcer (SU) and intestinal lesions associated with trisomy 8. SU is a morphological diagnosis used for patients with a typical lesion of the intestinal BD that presents a undermining ulcer in the ileocecum but does not meet the criteria for complete or incomplete BD. Cases of suspicious BD fall into the category of SU, and in such cases, they cannot receive the anti-TNFα antibody therapies. On the other hand, in the case of trisomy 8 positive myelodysplastic syndrome, they often show punched-out or undermining ulcers that closely resemble intestinal BD or SU. Although there is no clear difference in endoscopic findings, it has been suggested that responsiveness to medical treatment varies greatly. |
