In Japan, most colorectal polyps are resected by hot snare polypectomy, and pathologists take into consideration the burning effects around the cut end margin when diagnosing such lesions. We compared hot and cold snaring procedures from the point of pathological findings in order to make the diagnosis of colorectal polyps more practical and reproducible. Histologic type could be evaluated for all polyps resected by hot snare polypectomy, and the proportion of evaluable cut end margin was equivalent or higher in cold snare polypectomy, when compared with that in hot snare polypectomy specimens. Further study is necessary to determine the criteria for evaluation of cut end margin, and whether the evaluation itself is necessary. |
