| [ Summary ] |
Polypectomy is a minimally invasive procedure for removing colorectal tumors. Complications after polypectomy are rare, particularly with small polyps (<10 mm in size). However, serious adverse events, including delayed bleeding or perforation, will occur in some cases. Cold polypectomy is believed to be a safe and eff ective method for resection of small polyps without the risk of electrocautery burns, and is increasing in use not only in Europe and the United States but also in Japan. Horiuchi reported that delayed bleeding requiring hemostasis occurred less frequently after cold snare polypectomy than after hot polypectomy, despite continuation of anticoagulants. Other reports proved cold polypectomy is at least as safe and effective as hot polypectomy. As their use increases worldwide, clarifying and comparing the rate of complications associated with cold and hot polypectomy for small colorectal polyps will be of greater importance. |
