For the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease, recent studies have reported that diagnostic algorithms used with appropriate biopsy criteria provide a high degree of sensitivity and specificity. Pathologists often request that endoscopists take multiple biopsies not only from actively inflamed sites but also from endoscopically normal sites. Pathologists and endoscopists, who understand the process of histological diagnosis, will be able to fully discuss and correctly diagnose difficult cases. |
