| [ Summary ] |
In recent years, the number patients with both UC (ulcerative colitis) and CD (Crohn's disease) has increased in Japan. The introduction of new treatments such as biologics has brought about many change in the treatment of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). Hence, more detailed assessment with imaging tests is needed to select the most appropriate treatment. CTC (CT colonography) enables us to assess inflammatory luminal changes in the colon. CTE (CT enterography) can provide graphical images of both the bowel wall and of extra-intestinal lesions associated with IBD. Although radiation exposure is a critical issue, low dose CTs could be one solution. CTCs and CTEs are attractive new techniques and could be alternatives to endoscopy for IBD diagnostic imaging. |
