[ Summary ] |
Magnifying colonoscopy is used in many institutions in Japan for the observation of the surface structure of inflammatory bowel disease. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disorder caused by diff use mucosal inflammation with exacerbations and periods of remission. Magnifying colonoscopy is especially useful for determining the degree of histological inflammation in patients with ulcerative colitis. Magnifying endoscopic findings with narrow band imaging and indigo-carmine staining are useful as a mode of video diagnosis for the evaluation of ulcerative colitis. These evaluations are important in determining whether colitis is in pathological remission. |
