Recent advance on the gene wide association study has identified three major pathways in human IBD, including epithelial defense, IL-23 immunity, and immune regulation. In addition, a growing body of evidence from mouse IBD models suggests that the major pathways positively and negatively interact with each other to make more complicated IBD immune network than previously predicted. Further studies on the IBD susceptibility gene-mediated immunity are warranted for the development of novel therapeutic measures to save the lives of patients with IBD more effectively and more safely. |
