| [ Summary ] |
In relation to ten recent publications, we reviewed FICE endoscopy for the field of diagnostic colonoscopy. It has been proven that FICE can discriminate neoplastic colonic polyps from non-neoplastic polyps, based on vascular findings. The accuracy of FICE is the same as that of magnification chromoendoscopy. Both surface and vascular patterns can be key findings to identify deep invasion into the submucosal layer. FICE has been regarded as a useful tool to detect colorectal polyps because its distant views are very clear. However, negative data concerning FICE have recently been published in two English journals. Careful reading of these reports has revealed that appropriate FICE sets were not used in these clinical trials. A recent study we performed has shown that a FICE set (R 550nm, G 500nm, B 470nm) is effective for polyp detection. We are now conducting a prospective multi-center collaborative trial using this FICE set. |
